Frequently asked Questions

You can avoid a whole host of issues in your bin by using decent a liner. The use of a liner will stop any food waste drying onto the inside surface of your bin and make it less desirable to flies. The main issue has always been the liner falling into the bin when the first bag goes in. We stop this by sealing the bag onto the rim of the bin.

The No Fly Zone bin seal system will fit most bins in the UK and Europe. It requires an up-stand on the rim of the bin to fit to. This up-stand is normally between 5mm and 7mm high and needs 5mm to grip to (don’t worry if it doesn’t have an up-stand, we can still help). The up-stands are a variety of shapes, but the seal will follow and due to the flexible metal frame it will remember the shape for the next fitting.

You are free to use whatever bin liner you choose. Bin Skinz liners are 100% recycled and degradable (12 months in landfill to break down) and are designed with plenty of room to overlap the rim of the bin. Please ensure that the liners you choose wrap comfortably over the rim without stretching.

We have designed our Bin Skinz liners to comfortably fit your bin. Stretching bags that are too thin over the rim will lead to the liner splitting when the first bag goes into the bin and this in turn will render the liner useless. It is therefore very important to have a good amount of overhang on the rim to get the best out of your liner.
Bin Skinz are made using 100% recycled plastic that is degradable. These typically break down in landfill sites within 12 months.
We recommend the use our scented 100% pure essential oil in conjunction with a liner and seal. Applied to the rim and the lid this becomes the first line of defence against fly/ maggot infestations. Over many years we have tested numerous oils for this function and our oil not only smells great – it works!
We supply clear degradable bags for your recycling bin (accepted by most UK councils). The bin seal will work in the same way as the refuse bin. Please check with your council if you are unsure about clear bags.
In very few cases the up-stand on the rim is too small to fit our seal. In this case we recommend cutting smaller strips and fit them under the rim. This will hold the bag securely in place in the same way as fitting to the top. The only difference will be the the fact that this is not air tight. One seal will be more than enough for 2 or 3 bins.
It’s important that you remove the seal each time the bin gets emptied. If you do forget to remove your bin seal on emptying day, then in most cases it will stay on the bin with the liner still intact. If this happens then just replace the liner and start using the bin again. In the event that the seal falls into the bin, then we can offer you a replacement at a reduced cost.
Whilst it’s impossible to cover every eventuality, we have tested the seal with people who suffer with severe arthritis in their hands. It may take a little longer to fit the first time, but this hasn’t been a problem in our experience. Don’t forget, the seal becomes easier to fit after the first time, as it remembers the shape of the rim.
Yes, we offer liners and seals for larger steel commercial bins. These cater for refuse and recycling bins. Please check with us before ordering just to check the type of bin to get the correct seal option
